Downloading
Downloading on RomUlation is pretty straight forward, but to make sure it goes as painless as possible you need to know a few things about how our system works. It's not difficult so just give it a read.
Points
RomUlation uses a point system to prevent download abuse. We host a large number of files, and without the point sytem in place, a small number of greedy users would saturate the connection and create a poor experience for everyone else.
When you sign up at RomUlation, 500 points are credited to your account to get you started. Files under 50MB in size do not cost any points, they're free to download! However, files over 50MB in size cost 1 point per MB. For example, an 80MB file will cost 80 points. If you run out of points, there are a variety of ways to earn more:
- » Regular members receive 50 points credited to their account every 24 hours.
- » Become a premium member! A premium membership costs $15.00USD, and lasts for two months. Premium members receive 500 points credited to their account every 24 hours. See the other benefits available to you as a premium member here.
- » Upload Screenshots! Each screenshot that you upload and get approved earns you 15 points. See the screenshots section for more information.
- » Purchase points! If you just can't wait, you can purchase a block of 15,000 points for $5.00 USD.
Points are removed from your account as soon as you begin your download. The point cost for that file will then be set to zero for you for 24 hours, enabling you to redownload the file in case of a broken download or interrupted transfer. You can, however, always resume a file at no point cost.
Download Managers
RomUlation has full support for download managers whether you are a premium member or not. We support resuming of paused or broken downloads as well at no extra point cost. However, we only allow 1 connection for non-premium members.
Extracting
We use .rar files for compression instead of .zip files, .rar files have superior compression to .zip files so you will save downloading time and we will save both space and bandwidth. It's a win/win situation.
If you don't know how to extract rar files then please read the following forum thread about extracting rar files.
Emulating
RomUlation do not host emulators, we suggest using
Emulator-Zone.com for downloading emulators.
We do not provide support for emulating ROMS per se, though, we do have a very active and friendly forum
where you can obtain help. Go to the Technical Help section and create a thread there, though you might want to read
the How to ask for help thread and the Common Issues threads before you create a new topic, chances are your answer is in
the Common Issues thread and if not then the How to ask for help thread will help us help you faster.
Site Features
RomUlation has some features that other ROM sites does not, therefore not everyone is familiar with these, thus we have decided to do a short introduction of each feature.
User Interaction
RomUlation is a firm believer in user interaction, you are most likely equally knowledgeable in some areas as we are in others, this diversity of knowledge shared amongst all users makes for a large array of information available to everyone. Therefore we highly encourage everyone to help out on the site and on our forum.
Screenshots
RomUlation enable you, the user, to upload screenshots of games, it would be impossible for the admin team to provide screenshots for all of the ROMs due to the immense amount of ROMs available. Screenshots must be the size of the actual unit screen, that means that a GBA screenshot, for example, MUST be 240x160 pixels. The specific sizes of all supported systems are listed on the add screenshots page.
For each approved screenshots we credit your account with 15 points.
To add a screenshot simply navigate to the game you wish to add the screenshot to and click the Add Screenshot
button found below the screenshots. (or the not available image) Here you will be presented with a box where you
can select your image from your harddisk.
Please notice and follow the rules specified on the Add Screenshot page in order for your screenshot to not be
removed by a moderator. All images have to be approved before appearing on the site.
Game Comments
Comments enable you to communicate your opinion about a game to other users, if you know a good trick or has criticism about the game then this is where you can post such comments.
Please be aware that comments ARE NOT for support on how to make the game work in an emulator, it's a confusion place for support and it decreases the quality of actual game discussion. Failure to do so will result in your comment being deleted and, if repeated excessively, in your account being disabled.
Forum
RomUlation has a very active and growing community where users talk about emulation, ROMs and life in general. Our forum is an excellent place to get information or discuss the latest news about games or world events. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, gender, colour or console preferences.
